The Peony Maze covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters and is located in the herbaceous plant area of the park. The maze is surrounded by tall peony fences, which are about 1.2 meters high and composed of multiple peony varieties. When the flowering season comes from April to May every year, the flower hedges are covered with pink, white and red peonies. The petals are layered upon each other, forming a colorful flower wall. The passage is about 1 meter wide, with fine wood chips laid on the ground. When walking, one can smell a faint fragrance of grass and wood.

Entering the maze, the winding paths interweave into a network, and there are forks in the road every few steps. Some passages seem to lead to exits, but when approaching, they are blocked by flower walls. At some corners, large areas of blooming peonies suddenly appear, creating natural photo spots. At the center of the maze, there is a wooden viewing platform. Standing on it, one can overlook the geometric pattern of the entire maze – the flower hedges are arranged in a clockwise spiral, like a huge three-dimensional flower. Benches are placed around the viewing platform. When tourists get tired from walking, they can sit down to rest and enjoy the blooming peonies all around.

The design of the peony maze takes into account both ornamental value and fun. During the non-flowering period, the hedges are composed of neatly trimmed green leaves, maintaining the structure of the maze. When the flowering season arrives, the flowers bloom among the green leaves, creating a unique landscape of a “flower wall maze”. The flowering periods of different varieties of peonies vary. Early-blooming, mid-blooming and late-blooming varieties bloom in sequence, and the flowering period can last for about 40 days. During this period, visitors to the park can always see peonies in different states.

Apart from the maze, Chenshan Botanical Garden has many other places worth visiting. Near the Peony Maze are the rose garden and the Xerophytic botanical garden. It takes only a few minutes on foot to reach the mine pit garden and the submerged botanical garden. The mine pit garden makes use of the natural terrain to create waterfalls and boardwalks, which are perfect for taking photos. The underwater corridor in the Submerged Botanical Garden allows for close observation of aquatic plants. There are multiple rest areas and cafes in the park. When you get tired from playing, you can buy drinks and light meals.

The Peony maze is suitable for visitors of all ages. Parents can take their children to play the “treasure hunt game” in the maze to look for the signboards hidden in the flower hedges. Couples can take photos beside the flower wall to record the beauty of spring. The elderly can rest on the viewing platform and enjoy the geometric beauty of the sea of flowers and the maze. Here, there is both the romance of natural flowers and the joy of exploring paths. It is an unmissable check-in spot in Chenshan Botanical Garden in spring.
