The Gear maze is located in the northeast of Kunming Legu Ecological Park, near the parent – child activity area. It is the most unique attraction in the park, shaped like a huge gear.
The maze covers an area of about 12 mu, and the whole looks like an unfolded gear. There are 6 tooth – shaped paths extending outward, and each tooth is almost the same in length. The paths are separated by holly trees, which are 1.2 meters high and neatly pruned. The ground is paved with small stones, so it is not slippery to walk on.
The central area is a circular maze with a diameter of about 20 meters. It is connected to the gear paths, with the entrance and exit on different gear teeth. The paths in the circular maze are more winding with many turns. There is a wooden sign every section, with arrows drawn to indicate directions. There is a pavilion in the middle, where you can sit and rest when tired, and also observe the entire maze from above.
This maze is suitable for young people and families. The circular maze is slightly more complex and suitable for those who like challenges. Children run around beside adults to explore the way, which is very interesting. On weekends, there are often tourists taking photos at the entrance. Such gear – shaped mazes are rare worldwide.
In addition to the maze, the ecological park has a large lawn for flying kites and a small lake for boating. The catering area is 50 meters west of the maze, where you can eat Yunnan rice noodles, roasted potatoes and fried tofu. There is a canteen nearby selling water and snacks.
You can drive here. It takes about 35 minutes from downtown Kunming. The park’s parking lot costs 5 yuan a day. You can also take a bus to Legu Ecological Park Station and walk for 3 minutes after getting off.
The maze opens with the park from 9:00 to 18:00. The ticket is included in the park’s all – in – one ticket, which is 40 yuan per ticket. Children under 1.3 meters are free of charge.
It is suitable to visit in all seasons. The weather in Kunming is neither cold nor hot. It is recommended to wear light sports shoes. You need to walk in the maze for more than an hour. It is a good place for family outings.
