The Green Man Maze lies on the edge of a small village in Wales. The maze was built in 2005. It covers about 1500 square meters. the maze was planted in the shape of the pagan symbol of renewal as a tribute at the turn of the millennium.
The maze is made of hawthorn hedges. These hedges are native to Wales. They grow to around 1.8 meters high. Workers trim them twice a year to keep the shape. The hedges stay green all year.
The paths are designed like tree branches. They spread out from the center. The center has a wooden sculpture of the Green Man. The sculpture is carved with leaves and vines. It is a symbol of nature.
It takes about 25 to 35 minutes to walk through the maze. Most people can find the exit without help. There are no maps at the entrance. But some paths have small signs with leaf patterns. They hint at the right direction.
The maze is open from April to October. It closes in winter because of cold weather. Opening hours are 10 am to 5 pm. Tickets cost 8 pounds for adults. Children under 12 pay 5 pounds. Kids under 4 get in for free.
There is a small car park near the entrance. It can hold 20 cars. A café is next to the car park. It sells hot drinks and homemade cakes. Visitors can rest here before or after the maze.
The maze is named after the Green Man, a figure from local stories. These stories link him to forests and growth. Walking through the maze feels like being in a quiet forest. It is suitable for families. Parents and children can walk together. They can talk and look for the way out. Many visitors say it feels relaxing, not stressful.
The Green Man Maze is not very big. But it lets people get close to nature. It is a good place to spend an hour or two on a sunny day.
