Painswick Rococo Garden is located in the town of Painswick, Gloucestershire, UK. It was built in the mid-18th century. It is a typical Rococo-style garden and the only surviving complete Rococo garden in Britain.
The garden covers an area of 10 acres, approximately 40,000 square meters. There are many distinctive features in the garden. Among them, the most famous is the interesting plant maze. This maze has three centers. It is a good challenge for those who love exploration.
There is a very special hedge maze in the garden. The maze is not a traditional square, circle or random irregular shape. The green plant maze walls form the number “250”. The paths of the maze wind because of the shape of the number. This design is very rare. It adds unique interest and ornamental value to the maze.
Besides the plant maze, Painswick Rococo Garden has other places worth seeing. The garden has winding paths, ponds, woodlands, and follies of different architectural styles. Every August, the garden holds an art festival, which attracts many visitors. In addition, the garden is famous for snowdrops in winter and spring. There are 15 known species of snowdrops in the garden, including the famous galanthus ‘atkins ii’.
Today, Painswick Rococo Garden is open to the public. The opening hours are from 11:00 to 17:00 from January 10th to October 31st. The ticket prices are £7 for adults, £6 for people over 60, £3.3 for children aged 5-15, and £18 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children).
