The Plant Maze in Tieshanping Forest Park

Tieshanping Forest Park in Chongqing is located in the eastern part of Chongqing’s main urban area, in the middle section of the Tongluo Mountain Range and the hinterland of Liangjiang New Area, with a total area of 14.93 square kilometers. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. The park boasts unique natural landscapes, including the Gaoping Forest Sea and the Gorge River Scenery. It is also rich in humanistic and historical relics, such as the Sengguan Ancient Temple and ancient battle ruins, as well as the “Ten Sceneries of Tieshan” like Tongluo Facing the Sky and Sengguan Distant Bell.

The plant maze in the park is a major featured scenic spot, situated next to the children’s amusement park at the “Tongluo Facing the Sky” scenic spot. It is enclosed by more than 10 kinds of plants, including Bambusa multiplex, Photinia × fraseri, Camellia japonica, Melaleuca bracteata, Hibiscus syriacus and Nandina domestica. These plants form the walls of the maze, with varying heights, roughly ranging from 1.5 meters to 2 meters. This height allows people to feel the fun of exploration while shuttling through the maze, without completely blocking the view.

The plant maze has a moderate area. All tourists who come to Tieshanping will deliberately spend some time exploring the maze paths, enjoying the process of getting lost and finding the exit. The shape of the maze is relatively complex; its irregular shape looks like a double-kernel peanut in its shell. The red paths wind and turn, with many branches and dead ends, which increases the difficulty and fun of the maze. Surrounding the maze are tall and lush trees, and the density of negative oxygen ions in the air is surprisingly high. Under the trees, there are people everywhere enjoying the cool, doing exercises and watching children break through the maze.

The plant maze is not only a paradise for children, but also attracts many adults to come and take on the challenge. Tourists shuttle through the maze, sometimes losing their way and sometimes discovering new paths. While feeling the charm of nature, they also experience the fun of exploration, adding a unique appeal to Tieshanping Forest Park.
