The “Stones bring good luck” maze, a miracle made of stone

The “Stones bring good luck” maze of Sifangjing is located on the 33-kilometer-long lakeside greenway in Yunyang, Chongqing, China. It is a huge maze entirely made of stones. This maze covers an area of approximately 5,000 square meters, and the maze landscape wall is about 1,400 meters long. With the theme of “Hometown Memories, Inheriting Culture”, it deeply attracts our attention.

Here, there are three distinctive landscapes: the maze courtyard, the spiral viewing platform, and the children’s Maze. By making full use of over 3,000 old stone items collected and through the ingenious combination of skilled craftsmen, they have been given a new life. You know, stone mills, stone rollers, stone vats, stone pig troughs… With the development of The Times, the old stone objects that were once ubiquitous in the countryside have now completely faded from the historical stage, but they carry the memories of countless people for their hometowns.

What’s more interesting is that there are various ways to get through the maze. There are 380 ways to walk from the east gate to the west gate, and over 1,300 ways to walk from the east gate to the west gate and then to the south gate. Entering the maze often makes people lose their way.

Nowadays, local residents in Yunyang are accustomed to taking a walk in the maze after dinner. Leisure and entertainment have become a part of their life.
