In Kent, UK, there is a huge maze covering six acres (about 24,000 square meters), which was built based on the classic board game “Snake Ladder Chess”. The maze hedge is 2.7 meters high and is now applying for Guinness World Record certification.
Background of construction
The 62-year-old designer Michael Blee spent several months completing this project. He built this maze at Gore Farm in Applechi Village, Rochester. This is the tenth maze he has designed and also the most complex work to date. Blee said, “The feedback from family tourists has been good. There was once a tourist who spent four hours successfully clearing the customs.”
Visitor experience
Robert Hope, a 36-year-old tourist, along with his 5-year-old daughter Messi and 8-year-old son Stewart, said after experiencing it: “The huge scale brings a strong sense of immersion. Although it is a maze, it completely retains the core gameplay of the board game.” Data shows that it takes an average of 2.5 hours for ordinary adults to clear the customs, while it takes an average of 3.8 hours for the children’s group.
This maze features cold-resistant yew hedges and is equipped with a solar lighting system. It is open for night sessions every Wednesday night until 9:00 p.m. The farm also features a traditional tea room and a children’s play area. In 2023, an AR navigation device rental service was added (£3 per hour). According to statistics, 2,400 tourists have been received in the first week of opening.
