What Makes Boneo Maze a Hit for Families

Walking into Boneo Maze, you can’t help but feel like you’ve stepped back to a nicer time. The pace is slow, and the smell of nature hits you right away—total relaxation mode. This spot on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula is only about an hour’s drive away, covering 27 acres full of native plants and animals.

There are so many fun things to do here, you might not know where to start. First off, you can play 18-hole mini-golf. The course is actually pretty well-designed: kids can tee off from the closer red markers, while adults can take on the longer blue ones. And guess what? There are fluffy little sheep in the nearby pen watching you play! If you’re after some excitement, the adventure area has bungee trampolines, plus a rock-climbing wall—open weekends from September to April. Little ones can bounce around on the inflatable castle too; they’ll never want to leave.

The mazes are the real highlight. The hedge maze twists and turns—you’ll have to work a bit to get to the viewing platform in the center, and finding your way out takes even more effort. Next to it, there’s a smaller maze just for kids. Even if they “get lost,” it’s all green and cozy, so no stress. When you’re tired, head to the Games Garden. They’ve got giant chess and checkers sets— the pieces are as big as small stools! Stand on the board and move them around; it feels like stepping into a storybook. And there’s a vintage carousel here, built back in 1864. It runs regularly on weekends and holidays—hop on, and it’s like traveling back over a hundred years.

Make sure you take the 1.5-kilometer boardwalk. It goes through the wetlands, with native trees all along the way. Walk slowly: look for bird nests in the trees, listen to frogs croaking, and if you’re lucky, spot waterbirds gliding across the water. There’s a bird-watching spot where you can get a great view of Lake King. When your feet get sore, stop at the lakeside café. Grab a homemade meal, sit on the patio, and take in the wetland views—it’s so nice.

The activities here change with the seasons too. During holidays, there are always new themed events. Add in the year-round pedal boats, trampolines, and rock climbing, and you’ll never get bored even if you visit multiple times. From morning till night, this place is full of laughter. Whether you’re a kid or an adult, you’ll find something you love. Boneo Maze is just that kind of spot—one where you can leave the busyness behind and really enjoy time with nature.
