As early as 2004, the Reed Marsh Maze in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, was awarded the certificate of “China’s Largest Water Reed Marsh Maze” by the Shanghai Guinness World Records headquarters. The total area of this maze exceeds 140,000 square meters, with the water surface and reeds each accounting for half. There are three main waterways in the maze, with a total length of 7,650 meters. As the natural reed marsh has always remained in its original state, the reeds in this area can grow up to 5 meters tall when fully grown. The reed leaves are wide, thick and have a strong fragrance. Visitors can not only row a boat to explore the way out of the maze, but also enjoy the beautiful scenery of “the boat hidden among the reeds”.

Entering the reed marsh by boat, one feels that the surrounding green reeds are like thick walls. No one can guess the secrets behind these walls. With a heart full of curiosity, one can only explore along the way as the boat moves forward. After passing through a waterway under a wall, looking up, countless reeds intricately appeared before one’s eyes, and the waterway formed many forks. Among these forks, only one was a living path, allowing one to continue moving forward, while the others led either to a dead path or a circular one. After a full circle, the boat returned to its original place. The maze of waterways and reeds here is very much like a Bagua Zhen, and a person who is not familiar with the shape of the roads will take at least two or three hours to get out of it by boat. It is said that the New Fourth Army often fought guerrilla warfare here back then. If you want to experience the life of a guerrilla fighter, rent a small boat and row into the maze by yourself. Turn or move forward by feeling, and let the meandering waterways carry the boat to the next unknown place. Along the way, solve the confusing array composed of reeds and water, and make every step forward full of mystery.

But don’t worry about getting stuck in this reed marsh maze and unable to get out. Each boat is equipped with communication devices. Just make a phone call and there will be dedicated personnel to guide you and ensure your smooth escape from the maze. Tired of exploring the maze, we simply let the boat drift with the current and enjoy all the benefits of the reed marsh in spring. As the ship moves forward, various wild birds in the reeds are alarmed. A flock of egrets will suddenly appear at the bow of the ship, soaring straight into the blue sky in a graceful posture. A group of wild ducks will race side by side with the ship. All kinds of unknown wild birds’ calls rose and fell one after another, in harmony with the rustling of the reeds in the gentle breeze, which was very pleasant to the ear. It is said that if one is lucky, there might even be a carp jumping directly onto the boat from the water. Reeds also have a strong and refreshing fragrance. Be sure to take many deep breaths.
