In Tasmania’s “Promised Land”, there’s an incredibly amazing spot – the Tasmazia maze complex. It’s right in the heart of the Cradle Mountain and Lakes District, and when you drive there, you can see the magnificent Mount Roland standing guard nearby the whole time.
The most awesome thing here is that there are eight mazes in total. And the “Great Maze” among them is even more impressive – when it was first planted, it was the largest maze in the world! Step inside, and you’ll find a few smaller mazes hidden within too. Some are made of wood, and there’s one where you have to walk on balance beams – kids have a total blast playing here. The signs along the way are full of funny jokes; you’ll end up laughing as you walk. You can also hunt for “treasures” hidden around, like a jar of “gold” – it turns getting lost into a super fun game.
Besides the mazes, there are tons of other surprises here. The “Lower Crackpot Village” is scaled down to 1/5 the real size, and it’s so cute – every little house holds a story about Tasmania. In the Embassy Gardens, there are model “embassies” from over 40 countries; you might even spot a symbol from your hometown! When January comes around, 10,000 lavender plants bloom, and the whole garden fills with a soft, nice scent.
If you get tired from playing, don’t worry – there’s a café where you can take a break, and the gift shop sells lavender products and honey. The place is perfect for family trips: there’s a parking lot, picnic areas, and families with babies can even find a parent-and-child room.
Normally, we try to avoid getting lost when we’re on vacation. But at Tasmazia, getting lost becomes the best part of the experience. The fresh air is filled with laughter, and when you’re tired from walking, just look up – you’ll see the distant mountains right there. Whether you’re a kid or a grandparent, you’ll find your own kind of fun here.
